In some circumstances, you may have an object within a Revit model which either does not show under the Unassociated/Associated tabs in the Model section of the specification. Or an Object is Missing error shows under the Issues tab after scanning the model.

Why Does This Error Occur?

The reason this will occur is not that the object has been removed from the model, but because the Revit Category the object belongs to has been filtered out.

You may also have instances where an object does appear on the Unassociated/associated tabs, but you do not wish to display objects belonging to this Revit category.

Why are certain Revit Elements Filtered out?

This filtering exists to remove a number of non-associable items (e.g. grid lines, anchors, etc.) which are distractions from the objects or elements that do need associating. However, we understand there may be a small number of those objects which customers would like to associate with a clause.

Because of this, we included the ability to whitelist/blacklist these objects - below is a guide that will take you through how to add these categories to a whitelist/blacklist category.

How to Add to your Whitelist/Blacklist

If you navigate to the following folder C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\NBS Plug-in for Autodesk Revit there is a file called element-type-filter.json. You can open this file in Notepad and it will have two sections:

  • Whitelist - this section allows you to add Revit categories that you would like to appear in the model panel and would like to be able to associate.
  • Blacklist - this section is used to omit Revit Catagories from the Unassociated/Associated tabs so they can not be associated.

In the example below, if you were to add “Walls” to the Blacklist section, you would no longer see the Wall objects appear in the model tab:

If you wish to add multiple Revit Categories to your Whitelist/Blacklist, you can do so by separating each category with a comma:

How to find out the Revit Catagory of an object

Select the relevant object in your model and navigate to the properties window of Revit. In here you will see a drop-down menu which shows the Revit category -
